Day Camp   
Ages 6-12   

Join us for a week or an entire summer at Day Camp Sturtevant!! Camp is located off Northwestern Avenue on the Eau Claire River. During each week campers will have the opportunity to experience the outdoors Camp Sturtevant style. Activities include large group games, crafts, BB guns, archery, canoeing, fun-yakking, swimming, weekly theme activities, sports and much, much more! Counselors are college age adults who have been selected and trained with special care in the areas of safety, child development, creativity and understanding of children. Camp Sturtevant staff act as positive adult role models for their campers.

What to Bring

Campers should bring on a daily basis: Items with first and last names in it

  • A day pack or duffel bag to carry everything in
  • Swimsuit
  • Towel
  • Tennis Shoes that are closed toed
  • Sandals
  • Sunscreen
  • Raincoat
  • Sweater, Sweatshirt, or Light Jacket when cool
  • Extra change of clothes on a rainy day
  • Bag Lunch

In addition, for the Pathfinder and Trailblazer overnights please bring:

  • Sleeping Bag or Sheets/Blankets
  • Pillow
  • Pajamas
  • Change of clothes for Friday morning
  • Bag lunch for the following day

Be sure to mark all items clearly with the camper's first and last name. If your child does lose something at camp, please contact staff as soon as possible to assist you in checking LAF (Lost and Found) Lodge. YMCA Camp Sturtevant and the downtown YMCA are not responsible for lost items.

Rainy Days

Rainy days at camp can happen. If the weather is warm and the rain is light, we will be outside for at least some portion of the day. We suggest packing a spare set of dry clothing and a raincoat for these days. If we cannot be outdoors, games will be played in the lodge, along with stories and songs

Severe Weather

Camp Sturtevant has a severe weather scanner for early warning and communication steps in place in case severe weather strikes. Camp Sturtevant has a tornado shelter located in the lower level of the Sturtevant Family Lodge. Campers will be moved inside to an appropriate area upon first warning of dangerous weather.

Food

Sturtevant Campers bring a sack lunch daily. It is recommended the lunch be balanced and non-perishable. Lunches will not be refrigerated. Day Campers staying on overnights should bring Friday's lunch on Thursday since they will be spending the night. Camp will supply milk each day.

Transportation

Our primary check-in and check-out is at Camp Sturtevant. Limited transportation from the downtown YMCA Youth Lobby is $7.00/week per camper for transportation to and from camp. You must register at the South Desk to reserve your spot. Spots are limited and we encourage you to check-in and out at camp if possible. 26 Campers at most may ride per week. If for any reason we believe there is a question or confusion regarding a child's destination, we will keep the child safely at Camp Sturtevant until an authorized person can be reached

Lobby Check-in 7:30 - 8:00 a.m.
Leave Lobby 8:00 a.m.
Return Lobby 5:10 p.m.
Check-out ends 5:30 p.m.

Please do not drop off campers before 7:30 a.m.

Pathfinder Overnights

Pathfinders pack your sleeping bags and prepare for campfire stories during weeks 2, 4, 7, & 10 on Thursday nights. After the rest of the camp leaves, the Pathfinders continue with an overnight experience. Campers should bring sleeping gear, personal items, pajamas, swim suit, towel, clean clothes and Friday lunch.

Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Pre-Care and Check-in is from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.
Core programming occurs from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Post-Care and Check-out is from 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Weekly Themes

Every week Camp Sturtevant offers a new theme. The "Theme of the Week" compliments regular camp activities and culminates with a theme celebration typically done on Thursdays.

Week 1 - Outer space - June 14-18
Take a trip into space as we explore our solar system and discover the outer limits of the galaxy and stars.

Week 2 - Adventure - June 21-25
Learn the skills of the adventurer...map and compass, pathfinding, weather and hiking skills as you work toward becoming a voyageur through completing the voyageur packet.

Week 3 - Holiday - June 28 - July 2
Joins us for THE Holiday Extravaganza. We will explore holidays of all sorts and cultures. You will definitely experience a trick and a treat this week.

Week 4 - Sports - July 5-9
The summer Olympics have arrived at Camp! Friendly games of basketball, soccer, volleyball and swimming will fill this week. Come join us as we reach for the gold.

Week 5 - Canoe & Kayak - July 12-16
Go for a paddle on the Eau Claire River. The focus of this week is on learning water safety skills, paddling strokes, and having fun with canoes and fun-yaks.

*Week 6 - Water Fun - July 19-23
Under the sea camp will be this week!! Beat the summer heat with games and activities focused on water. *An additional $16 is charged this week for Rainbow Falls.

Week 7 - Renaissance - July 26-30
A time of Kings and Queens, Jesters and Dragons! Come join the fun as we experience jousting, archery, and help solve a Sturtevant Mystery.

Week 8 - Safari - August 2-6
Come along for a Camp Sturtevant Safari!! We will explore the outback at camp, search for wildlife, and create our own safari adventures.

Week 9 - International - August 9-13
Discover the cultures and traditions within our own country and those of the international community.

Week 10 - Western - August 16-20
We are off and running at "Ol' Camp Sturtevant" as we ride the prairie, pan for gold, and have friendly squirt gun games.

Week 11 - Art - August 23-27
Learn about the arts as you develop artistic abilities in painting, sculpture, drama, and music. A great opportunity to be creative and have fun.

Week 12 - Cartoon - August 30-September 3
Camp counselor super heroes come together celebrating the fun summer during this last summer week. T-shirt signing and closing summer council fire this week too! Don't miss it!
