Day Camp   
Ages 5-13   

Join us for a week or an entire summer at Day Camp Sturtevant!! Camp is located off Northwestern Avenue on the Eau Claire River. During each week campers will have the opportunity to experience the outdoors Camp Sturtevant style. Activities include large group games, crafts, BB guns, archery, canoeing, fun-yakking, swimming, weekly theme activities, sports and much, much more! Counselors are college age adults who have been selected and trained with special care in the areas of safety, child development, creativity and understanding of children. Camp Sturtevant staff act as positive adult role models for their campers.

What to Bring

Campers should bring on a daily basis: Items with first and last names in it

  • A day pack or duffel bag to carry everything in
  • Swimsuit
  • Towel
  • Tennis Shoes that are closed toed
  • Sunscreen
  • Raincoat
  • Sweater, Sweatshirt, or Light Jacket when cool
  • Extra change of clothes on a rainy day
  • Bag Lunch

In addition, for the Pathfinder and Trailblazer overnights please bring:

  • Sleeping Bag or Sheets/Blankets
  • Pillow
  • Pajamas
  • Change of clothes for Friday morning
  • Bag lunch for the following day

Be sure to mark all items clearly with the camper's first and last name. If your child does lose something at camp, please contact staff as soon as possible to assist you in checking LAF Lodge. YMCA Camp Sturtevant and the YMCA are not responsible for lost items.

Rainy Days

Camp will go on!. If the weather is warm and the rain is light, we will be outside for at least some portion of the day. We suggest packing a spare set of dry clothing and a raincoat for these days. If we cannot be outdoors, games will be played in the lodge, along with stories and songs.

Severe Weather

Camp Sturtevant has a severe weather scanner for early warning and communication steps in place in case severe weather strikes. Camp Sturtevant has a tornado shelter located in the lower level of the Sturtevant Family Lodge. Campers will be moved inside to an appropriate area upon first warning of dangerous weather. Please do not come to camp until the severe weather has passed.

Food

Sturtevant Campers bring a sack lunch daily. It is recommended the lunch be balanced and non-perishable. Lunches will not be refrigerated. Day Campers staying on overnights should bring Friday's lunch on Thursday since they will be spending the night. Camp will supply milk each day.

Transportation

Our primary check-in and check-out is at Camp Sturtevant. Limited transportation from the Wausau and Aspirus YMCAs. You must register to reserve your spot. Spots are limited and we encourage you to check-in and out at camp if possible. Spaces are limited. If for any reason we believe there is a question or confusion regarding a child’s destination, we will keep the child safely at Camp Sturtevant until an authorized person can be reached.

Family Nights

On Thursday evening of weeks 6 and 9 we will be having our Family Night programs. This offers friends and family a chance to tour camp, meet the staff, and experience some of the great activities that the campers are a part of each day.

Pathfinder & Trailblazer Overnights **

We will offer four overnights during weeks 3, 6, 9, and 11.  This is a special time for these campers to enjoy an evening at camp and after a night full of activities, gather around the campfire to reflect on the past session, the challenges they faced, and the new friends that they made. 

**The overnight experience is included in the camp fee but is not part of the licensed camp experience.

Continuing the Sturtevant tradition of theme offerings, we will offer a theme day on Friday of each week. This day will offer a change of pace and activities that are not a part of the typical day camp schedule.
